Design for a Home Office and Gym

Today we're showcasing a design plan by Robin from Lovely Lark Living. The plan is for a mixed use home office and gym space that's crisp and clean, with a touch of glam.

For a home office/gym, we want a light and energizing feel. Both spaces need to empower us to achieve our most challenging goals, whether it's a shredded six pack or making millions from our side hustle. This plan 100% gets us there. Total slam dunk. Thank you, Robin!

Robin's tips for home gym decor:

  • Add a mirror (or two) to check your form
  • Choose easy to clean surfaces that won't hold the smell of sweat
  • Don't skimp on the art

Let's review this combo home office and gym design plan piece by piece.

Paint Color

This soft blue/gray hue is cool and effortlessly refreshing, especially when paired with light accessories and navy details.

Paint tip: when pairing paint colors with wallpaper, don't aim for a perfect match. We like to use the main color of the wallpaper an a starting point, then travel up or down the color chip and choose a significantly lighter or darker shade. This adds depth to your space, while also ensuring the design is cohesive.

Lighting

Gold metal touches keep the decor from feeling too cold. It's nice to mix some warm and cool elements to add balance to your decor plan. Here the cool whites, grays, and blues balance out with gold and warm wood.

We love this classic and perfectly proportioned wall lamp from Shades of Light. Mount one centered above your desk, or two flanking a work space. You could also add two of these on either side of a tall mirror, or on the wallpaper accent wall.

B. Adjustable Arm One-Light Wall Sconce

Accent Wall

For the home office and gym wallpaper accent wall, Robin chose Blue Bohemian Scallops peel and stick wallpaper.

Other great wallpaper options for this space would be Dalmatian Dots in Navy or Rococo Rebel. All add an organic, effortless flow on a crisp white background.

Desk Chair

Remember that tip to use wipeable surfaces in your home gym space? That applies doubly to the seating. Here Robin found this stylish and slick-surfaced acrylic desk chair from Pottery Barn. Perfect pick.

Mirror

An oversized mirror is, in our opinion, a must-have for a home gym. It allows you to see if you're any skinnier since starting your workout...ahem...you can check your form, while also adding light and giving the space a fresh feeling. In keeping with Robin's plan, choose a mirror framed in gold. The thin frame keeps it glam, and the casual lean continues the organic feel.

E. Metal Frame Oversized Floor Mirror

Wall Art

Robin chooses abstract pieces in blues, grays, cream, and blush that compliment the airy space and soften the overall look. Choose a mix of frames in white, natural wood, or slim gold.

F. Atlanta G. Series 1 No. 7

Stool

A small stool is always nice to have in a home gym, and we love this one with both natural wood and crisp white paint.

Storage

Keep your mat, bands, foam blocks, and office supplies neatly tucked away in this sleek (and inexpensive) cabinet.

Hardware

Take the Ikea cabinet (and maybe your desk, filing cabinet, or closet doors) to the next level with these sleek pulls and knobs. The brass and leather pull it all together. For this plan we love the Navy and Raw color options.
Thank you, Robin, for this home office and gym design plan. We're feeling inspired and ready to do #allthethings in this bright and organized office and gym combo space.
